Our Story

The White Mountain Motel and Cottages, formerly known as the White Mountain Motor Court, was born in the early 1930's.  Originally built and run by Arthur and Olga Belanger, the property started with four cottages built between the 1930's and into the early 1940's.  In the early 1950's, the Belangers constructed a single story, four-room motel to the North side of the four cottages.  The property was sold to the Hughes family in 1977.  The Hughes family saw the property through another major expansion.  In 1980, Cottage 4 was relocated to the North side of the motel, and the motel was expanded to include 2 more rooms on the ground floor, plus a laundry room, and another six rooms plus supply closet upstairs.  Later in the 1980's, the business passed on to the next generation of the Hughes family.  The latest change came in late 2016 when Tom and Debbie Hughes sold the business to Jim and Janna White, its current owners.

Through its 87-year history (as of 2017), the White Mountain Motel and Cottages has always been a family-owned and operated business.  What it lacks in 5-Star Hotel accomodations, it makes up for in its small-town, family-friendly, laid-back personality.  No matter how unpretentious it may be, the White family believes in providing a solid value for their guests.  We are sticklers for cleanliness.  We have been renovating and upgrading non-stop since purchasing the business in 2016, and our plans are to continue that momentum for many years to come.  Return guests will almost certainly enjoy something different each time they visit us.  We are excited to have the opportunity to be a chapter in the White Mountain history, and constantly strive to find ways to enhance our guest's experience as they create life-long memories to cherish.
